Global Biofuels Ltd. (RC 679588), is implementing a project to convert the juice from the stalk of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench) to ethanol.
The initiative is the product of research on sorghum cultivars by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) with HQ in India. Sweet sorghum is similar to grain sorghum, with sugar-rich stalks.
The Company is working with Ekiti State Government, one 103 KLPD fuel ethanol refinery with the goal to implant 9 more refineries in various parts of Nigeria. Each refinery together with the associated farm for feedstock production will directly employ 8,000 Nigerians in addition to creating 40,000 indirect jobs.
